Scientist Saturday in The Lab

Free with admission into the Museum of Life & Science

Join scientists from Duke as we explore how Earth’s atmosphere affects the ocean and its creatures! Do experiments, ask questions, and explore practical earth sciences with:

  • Rebecca Lauzon – A Coastal Geomorphologist (that means she studies the evolution of coastal landscapes)
  • Colleen Bove – A Coral Ecologist (she studies ocean acidification and the warming effects on coral reefs)
  • Kim Drouin – A Physical Oceanographer (she studies the circulation of the South Atlantic Ocean.)

Acoustical Engineer–Create, Play, Test!

Dates: February 16, 2018 from 1–3 pm | February 17, 2018 from 10 am–12 pm | February 17 from 1–3 pm

Cost: $25 per person*
* Price does not include cost of admission.

Best for ages 6 and older*
* All participating children must be accompanied by an adult. We kindly request that one adult accompany every two children if the participants are under the age of 12.

Tinkerers of all ages and abilities will love these hands-on workshops! Once a month join our team of expert educators as you explore the latest technologies such as 3D printing pens and wearable electronics, while developing skills that create real-world connections to science, technology, and engineering.

Create your own music as we explore the science of sound with LittleBits, Makey Makey, Scratch and more! Test out how sound is created as you build your own electric guitar pickup to take home. Explore the different ways animals hear when we meet the animals that live behind-the-scenes at the Museum during a hands-on animal encounter!

NEW THIS YEAR

  • Share your creation with your friends! Each workshop participant will leave with a take home creation.
  • Extended workshop sessions – Enjoy an extra 30min of creative building time.
