Somehow in the last ten years I’ve aged. Shocker, I know. I don’t know how it happened. I went to bed one night as a 22 year old and woke up in my thirties. There’s this weird mental shift that happens as I get older. I no longer think the same way and my brain has aged with me. In my teens and early 2os I wore adorable outfits that consisted of more skin and less fabric. My outfits were tasteful, but definitely had less coverage. I once measured the appropriate length of my shorts by a mole on my thigh. If you couldn’t see the mole, the shorts were too short. Of course, now I realize that anything above that mole is showing way too much skin. Gone are the days of shopping in the juniors department and 2 inch inseams. I mean, I have seen some of the clothes in that department lately. Boy am I glad I don’t have a teenage daughter right now. Not shopping in the juniors section has left me with the endless hole that is the women’s department. Someone hire me a stylist ASAP because I’m lost! There’s just too many choices and brands and styles and I just don’t know what to do with them. For tops, I tend to gravitate towards one plain crew cut t-shirt that I like at Target every year and just stock up. It’s easy, it’s classic and you can’t go wrong. $7 each and 10 colors later I have a colorful and boring wardrobe to last me all summer long. I need an intervention. I’m stuck in the stay at home mom rut!
Clearly, I’m low maintenance when it comes to clothes. I’m sure my husband appreciates this, but I dread clothes shopping. I just don’t know what to buy or where to shop. So when I pulled out my shorts from last summer and decided it was time for some new pieces to get me through the next few months, I was lost. Where are the shorts for the moms? Not the booty shorts for the 22 and under girls or the shapeless shorts for the 60+ crowd, but the cute and modest shorts for the women who still want to look good, but want a little coverage. I don’t have time to bounce around from store to store finding these shorts. So I polled my friends and fellow Raleigh Moms Blog contributors and this is what we’ve found!
This recommendation came from multiple friends! Classic, adorable and affordable! Old Navy tends to have something for every mom and in varying lengths. I’ll be skipping over the 3″ inseam and buying the 5″ for myself.
Of course! How could I forget about Gap? You can’t go wrong with the timeless options found on the racks here.
How fun is this print? Perfect for matching with my classic, solid color Target tees!
Costco and BJ’s
Many of my friends are finding their summer shorts at warehouse clubs. Who knew? The perfect option for busy moms! Just add a pair or two to your cart as you pick up that giant bag of Veggie Straws. Genius!
This was a surprise for me. I was picking up a few craft supplies at Michael’s when I decided to pop into the Dress Barn next door. Twenty minutes and 5 pairs of shorts later (one style in every color of course) I had my shorts for the summer. Sold!
I’ll leave you with this hilarious and relevant video. Have you found the perfect shorts? Let us know where you’re shopping!
