Hi there! My name is Heather Long, and I have just joined the team as a contributor to RMB, so thought it would be nice to share a bit about myself, so buckle in!

I was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. If you are not familiar with upstate New York, let’s just says it’s a beautiful place to be for about four months out of the year, but I eventually had enough of seven-month winters! (Not an exaggeration…..one year, we trick-or-treated in a blizzard, and it was snowing on Mother’s Day. Count it folk……..SEVEN.MONTHS). All of my friends were heading down South to find teaching jobs, and my mom and sister also moved down. So…….I followed suit, found a job as a teacher, and the rest was history. My twenties were spent living a carefree life with my girlfriends, and I eventually met and married my husband, Kenny.
After about five years of traveling and more adventures, we welcomed our son, Gavin.
I live and work full-time as a high school special education teacher in Apex. I love teaching, and I also love living in such a charming town. I feel very fortunate that my son is able to grow up in such an amazing place. And that he will have only two months of winter a year 🙂
Fun facts about me:
Likes: Traveling! Can’t get enough. It is my goal to hit six of the seven continents in my lifetime. And who knows, Antarctica will probably have some sort of luxury spas by then too! Also love the beach and the mountains, reading as many books as I can get my hands on, hanging out with my family, spending time with my girlfriends, trying out new restaurants, and running/walking.
Dislikes: Healthy eating, but I am working on it! Waking up really early, sushi, dreary weather, rude people. Hmm, I don’t have that many unusual dislikes, I guess (besides sushi!)
Cool Places we like to go in Raleigh as a Family: Durham Bulls games, museums (Marbles and Museum of Life and Science are favorites), Pullen Park, playgrounds, and family-friendly breweries, to name a few!
Cool Places to Hang out with Ladies, sans Kids: I love those wine-and-design places. We also really like to get pedicures, and get our hair blown out when we are feeling REALLY fancy! My friends and I also “graze” the bars, as we call it. Hit the downtown scene and grab an app and drink at each bar. The dinner/movie combo at CinéBistro in Cary is also great fun!
Favorite Quote: I don’t know that it’s my all-time favorite, but I do love this cheerful and cute quote from Annie.
“You’re never fully dressed without a smile.”
