We’re sharing a few of our favorite events from a Family Astronomy Evening, a Japanese Summer Festival, a Kid Lit Event and even a Magical Movie in the Garden that are sure to excite the kiddos. RLT’s Movies In The Garden: Cinderella (2015) PG rating

Start your weekend party early with this classic outdoor movie in the garden!

Thursday, July 27th. Movies start at 8:30 p.m.  Concessions & Food Trucks open at 7:00 p.m.  Stephenson Amphitheatre next to the Raleigh Rose Garden, Raleigh

Spend your evening under the stars at this FREE family-friendly outdoor movie sponsored by Raleigh Little Theatre. Bring your favorite chairs, cushions, and blankets to enjoy this event. Food Trucks and concessions will be on-site. A Disney Trivia activity will be held before the show. 

Crowder by Night:  Moth Party!

Friday, July 28th.  7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Crowder District Park, Apex

Learn about moths and how important they are to our ecosystem. Watch as a park naturalist will attempt to attract as many moths as possible using light and a recipe of fermented fruit and sugar. Participants will also make a craft. For all ages (adult accompaniment is required).  Registration required.  Cost: $1 per person.

Family Astronomy Evening

Friday, July 28th.  8:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.  Harris Lake County Park, New Hill

Discover the night sky through telescopes and binoculars. See Jupiter and Saturn among other celestial bodies. Bring your own viewing instrument if you have one, a chair or blanket and water bottle.  For all ages. Cost: $1 per person. Registration is required.

Garden Storytime

Friday, July 28th.  10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  JC Raulston Arboretum, Raleigh

Spend a morning of garden exploration, stories & crafts with your littles. This event is for ages three to five years.  Cost: Free for members, $5 per child for non-members. Register in advance. 

Beauty and the Beast – North Carolina Theatre

Runs from July 25th – July 30th.  Memorial Auditorium, Raleigh

Enjoy this classic tale of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast filled with unforgettable characters, a lavish set & costumes, and beloved songs. 

2017 Japanese Summer Festival

Saturday, July 29th.  1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Scott Building on the State Fairgrounds, Raleigh

This traditional Japanese festival will feature stage entertainment, musical & dance performances, festival-type street food & drink, games, arts, crafts, vendors and more. Cost: $5 for ages 13 years & older.

Read With Me Kid Lit Event with Author Cat Michaels

Saturday, July 29th.  2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.   Read With Me – A Children’s Book & Art Shop, Raleigh

Special Kid Lit Event- Join local author Cat Michaels as she leads an interactive reading of her book Finding Fuzzy, where junior artists and authors decide the end of the story with Cat’s help. Jammin’ activity follows the reading. For rising grades 1-5.

Innovation Play Lab – Workshops for Older Kids: Creative Critters

Sunday, July 30th.  1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.  Marbles Kids Museum, Raleigh

This one is for your older kids ages 8 years & up! Big kids can enjoy a 45-minute drop-off workshop exploring and designing with new tools and materials. Learn hand sewing techniques to embellish a one-of-a-kind plushie pal. This event is included with museum admission. 

Weekend Family-Friendly Tours:  Poetry in Art

Sunday, July 30th.  10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  NC Museum of Art, Raleigh

FREE thirty-minute family-friendly tour and activity. Write, scribble, and compose using art as your inspiration.
