Memorial Day Weekend in the triangle is always fun for the entire family, and this year is no different! From our annual events to first-time shows, this weekend is sure to keep you busy! Below are the events my family is going to check out, but there are plenty more! Make sure to review our Community Events calendar for additional fun!
Memorial Weekend Roundup: May 25th – May 28th
Friday, May 25th – Monday, May 28th, Fleming Loop Park, Fuquay Varina
The Freedom Balloon Fest is a free annual event in Fuquay-Varina, that allows the public to enjoy dozens of hot air balloons in celebration and remembrance. When balloons aren’t in the air, you can enjoy a wide variety of N.C. based foods along with N.C. State Fair-inspired foods (Over 40 different food vendors are scheduled). You can experience live local musicians, field games for all ages, visit merchants, Arts and Craft Village presented by the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce, watch a Chef’s Challenge and more.
Friday, May 25th – Gates open at 7pm, the movie will start at dusk (approximately 8:30pm), Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary
Bring a picnic blanket and snacks, and the entire family to see a movie under the stars! Start your weekend off with a summer favorite, Disney movie Coco.
Lake Benson Park in Garner at 8:30pm, Friday, May 25th
Coco will also be showing at the Lake Benson Park. Bring a picnic dinner or purchase food at the park, and if you’re interested in spending the night during this special Friday Family Flick and Camping event, you can pitch a tent! Pre-registration required for camping.
Friday, May 25th – Monday, May 28th, Raleigh Convention Center
A Raleigh event staple celebrating popular Japanese visual culture, Animazement takes over the Raleigh Convention Center all weekend. The convention attracts thousands of attendees and features a huge range of events, such as videos, cultural demos, fan and guest panels, J-pop/rock concerts, martial arts demos, craft classes, artists, vendors and more.
Saturday, May 26th, Historic Yates Mill County Park, Raleigh
Spend your Saturday on the lake and learn basic canoeing skills while learning about the history of the millpond. Register in advance.
Saturday, May 26th, Bond Park, Cary
I normally don’t post about paid events, but we WILL be at this one! For $39, you get a one-day pass, and have access to the Bond Park Challenge Course with a high-ropes course and zip-line, in addition to unlimited boat rentals for the day. All equipment is provided!
Sunday, May 27th 5pm – 7pm, E. Carroll Joyner Park, Wake Forest
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and relax while enjoying the sounds of Melissa Reaves.
