Did you hear the news? Lidl, the popular European grocery chain, has made its way to the Triangle area and is quickly changing the grocery shopping experience. Lidl’s high quality-low price commitment and hassle-free shopping are making families re-think how they shop for groceries.
They grew from a small store operating in Germany to a large chain growing across Europe. Today “Lidl operates in over 10,000 stores in 28 countries and is quickly expanding in the United States especially right here in North Carolina. The Triangle recently welcomed Lidl to the Wake Forest area over the summer.”
As a Raleigh mama with a busy gang of five, we take our grocery shopping very seriously. We believe in saving time, budgeting and putting good food on the table to keep our family healthy. With this big announcement, I had to learn more about Lidl and experience this new local family grocery store for myself.
Five Reasons to Shop for the Family at Lidl
1. Self-Serve Freshness
Nothing is fresher than the sweet aromas of freshly baked bread. Yum! Don’t we all want to be greeted with a hot fresh loaf of goodness? This is what you immediately experience once you enter a Lidl grocery store.
The Lidl Bakery is located in the front of the store welcoming each customer in to buy their delicious pastries & breads. These top-quality baked goods are baked fresh throughout the day. No standing in line at this bakery. The entire section offers a self-service experience. The morning we visited the bakery was busy with customers carefully bagging their pastries to purchase. Lidl even has a self-service register where you can process a sticker for your baked good and then pay at the register during checkout.
2. Carefully Curated Products
Lidl knows that as moms we don’t have the time to sift through five different brands of the same product during our grocery shopping. Therefore, they have done the sifting for us! Lidl has carefully curated all the goods in their stores to provide top-quality at low prices to Raleigh area families. We won’t see packed shelves of the same product with different labels, but a few options to choose from carefully selected by the Lidl team. From cereals to award-winning wines and cheese Lidl is giving families the best products that won’t break the bank.
3. Lidl Brand Guarantee
While shopping I took notice of many of the brands on shelves that were marked with Lidl’s private label. Families now have the option of buying the Lidl brand which also happens to be more affordable than the alternative we are custom to paying more for. (i.e., Lidl Wheat Bread for less than $1. That’s a win in our house!)
The majority of items in the store (i.e., pre-packaged foods, meats, breads, frozen foods, dairy products, etc.) are exclusively a Lidl brand – about 90% of these products. Each Lidl branded product goes through rigorous testing to ensure that it meets the Lidl’s high-quality standard and is still affordable for the consumer.
What does this mean for moms if we’re buying a Lidl branded food product? It means that we’re guaranteed that our food won’t contain certified synthetic colors, added MSG or partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) containing trans fat – all those things we don’t want on our children’s plates or in their bodies.
These high standards apply to baby care items also. Lidl carries an exclusive selection of Lidl baby products that have already earned the Parent-Tested, Parent-Approved Seal of Approval. Moms can now shop for groceries and baby care items and be at ease when they are choosing those essentials for baby.
4. Save Money Without the Compromise – Affordable Organic and Gluten-Free Options
Lidl is known for its variety of organic and gluten-free options priced at the lowest price point possible for consumers to enjoy. Throughout the store, I was able to find organic fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy options and packaged food items reasonably priced. Lidl’s ability to keep costs low will give families like mine an opportunity to bring home those healthy products that we haven’t been able to purchase in the past due to cost. No more compromising on feeding our family healthy options.
5. Lidl Surprises
This family grocery store knows that moms love a good surprise especially when it comes to making our home sparkle, managing our family, or just treating ourselves.
Lidl has a popular aisle in the middle of the store marked “Surprises” that will truly leave you surprised at the variety and cost. This aisle is a carefully selected collection of home essentials, fashion wear for the family, gardening and power tools, small kitchen appliances, fitness gear and more. In addition, Lidl is keeping babies comfy and fashionable with the Pure Collection babywear line in the Lidl Surprises area. This a feature area in the store where the selection of non-food products changes each week. Wouldn’t this be a nice surprise to see what fun products pop up each week during each visit to Lidl?
I treated myself to a decorative throw pillow for the office, cover for my patio table and even a fabulous 100% cotton sweater from the popular Esmara line by Heidi Klum. I’m certain I would have bought more if I had stayed longer. Can’t wait to see what surprises are in store for my next trip!
5. Easy-to-Shop Layout & Convenient Location
Lidl has put “family” back in the grocery store experience.
No more spending hours wandering around the store with kids in tow looking for a particular aisle.
Lidl’s store design is simple to get around and makes for a hassle-free grocery shopping experience. This easy-to-shop layout made our trip more enjoyable because we were able to move through the store with ease finding everything on our list.
In addition to an easy-to-shop layout the Lidl in Wake Forest is conveniently located North of Raleigh off of US1 North. You can hop in and out and still head on your way throughout town. Visit the Lidl website to find the other Lidl stores near you.
I encourage you to take a trip to Lidl and make this your new local family grocery store. Enjoy the experience, shop for the items your family loves, find a few surprises for yourself, and save a few bucks. Don’t forget to bring your reusable shopping bag during your visit or purchase a bag when you leave. The “bring your own bag” policy is another way Lidl keeps costs low.
