I am so excited to share an amazing opportunity that provides Wake County families with free children’s books. If you don’t already know about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, you are missing out!

About the Program

The Imagination Library provides free books to children from birth until age five. Each month, children are gifted a book at no cost. Dolly Parton founded the program in 1995 to insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income. The program began in East Tennessee and has been replicated both nationally and internationally.

North Carolina and Wake County

The Imagination Library is fairly new to North Carolina. In 2017, the state budget included more than $10 million to start the program in our state. The North Carolina Smart Start network administers the program. Smart Start is a collection of 75 local partnerships that serve our state’s communities.

The Imagination Library does not include every county in North Carolina. The good news is that Wake County residents are eligible for the program! Here is the link to learn more and sign-up.

Unfortunately, I live in Durham County which is not eligible. As a result, I’ll have to live vicariously through our many Wake County readers. If you sign-up for the program, please share your experience.
