When my second child entered school, our family schedule suddenly got tighter. All of a sudden there were double the school events, double the afterschool activities, double the sick days, double the doctor visits and less cooking dinner from scratch. With this busy schedule, I was on the hunt for quick and healthy meals I could feed my family while on the go. I recently discovered the new Sheetz Made-to-Order Kidz Mealz, and I had to give it a try.
Sheetz Made-to-Order Kidz Mealz
I read about Sheetz debuting their new healthy options Kidz Mealz that busy families can request using the Sheetz app or order on site at the Sheetz Kiosk. Each of the LiveWell meal options adheres to the National Restaurant Association’s LiveWell requirements.
What does this mean for your family and mine?
These meals offer our kids fruits & vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and low-fat dairy and limit unhealthy fat, sugars, and sodium.
The convenience of a quick meal along with classic and healthy options that each of my girls would enjoy…I had to give it a try! There is a Sheetz that happens to be less than five minutes from Gymnastics. The perfect setup….I don’t even need to stray off route home to pick up dinner. (Win-Win!)
Time To Order Dinner From Sheetz
I quickly downloaded the Sheetz app and gathered the children around to place our order. We were delighted to see SO many choices of Kidz Mealz!
My youngest daughter had a hard time deciding between the “Egg White Shmuffin”, the “Mac N’ Cheese” and the “Jr. Burger”, but in the end chose the burger. (Mom win #2…extra protein!). She also ordered a side of Mac N’ Cheese.
The Kidz Mealz comes with a choice of apple slices, grapes, or strawberry yogurt. She chose grapes. (Mom win #3…fruit!) Her drink choices were apple juice, milk, or chocolate milk, and of course, she chose the chocolate milk. (Mom win #4…organic milk!)
My older daughter really wanted to try a Meltz Sandwich, which is on the adult menu, but since she’s 12, that is usually where she orders these days. I was thrilled to see that I could order a “Made to Order Salad”. There was a long list of ingredient choices, and choices are perfect for salads! (Mom win #5….please the Mom!).
The results: My youngest (picky eater) daughter ate her entire burger, which is rare, and she loved it! She said that the small size was perfect and that was the only way to get her to eat a burger “in the bun”. (Mom win #6…no wasted food!).
The grapes were fresh and delicious. My older daughter loved the Meltz sandwich that she ordered. My salad was huge, and I was able to order guacamole and nuts on it, as well as the oil and vinegar dressing that I like. I would say the customizable salad and variety of meals for my kids will bring me back to Sheetz.
Sheetz Touch-Screen Ordering Is Providing Convenience & Healthy Options For Busy Families
During our visit, we also noticed that Sheetz’s touch-screen technology allows families to order on the kiosks in the store if families don’t have time to pre-order. Sheetz Kidz Mealz has over 15 different meal options for families to choose from for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Families can even enjoy the meal in the dining area with indoor and outdoor dining along with a couch area to relax a bit. I can definitely see us ordering again, either in Raleigh or on our next road trip.
Learn more here about these healthy Made-to-Order food options from Sheetz, including their premium coffee and cold brew (another WIN!) developed by Executive Chef Dan Coffin. There are a number of Sheetz throughout the Triangle area open 24 hours, 365 days a year.
Fun Fact: Sheetz is family-owned convenience store chain with over 560 store locations in six states – Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virgina, West Virginia, Ohio & Maryland. They are currently celebrating 65 years in business.
While you’re driving across town in Raleigh or road tripping through North Carolina and beyond stop in and enjoy a quick and healthy meal at Sheetz.
