As a truly universal language, coding may be the most important second language a child can learn. Much like a foreign language, childhood and early adolescence are the perfect time to teach coding while kids are still learning “how to learn.” We at Code Ninjas can find plenty of research to support the notion that coding, or programming, provides important benefits for all students.
What you may find surprising is that these benefits don’t have much to do with coding per se.
1. Building Creativity
When kids code they can enjoy building their own computer games by creating designs, animations, storytelling and building their own imaginary worlds and characters.
Kids who code are learning how to break down big complex problems into a series of small achievable steps.
Coding requires a group effort. Kids are building projects together and learning how to communicate and work together as a team. Teams are learning how to compromise with each other while engaging in thought-provoking discussion.
Creativity, problem-solving, learning and building things is not easy. Sometimes there is serious de-bugging to do!! Kids are building their resilience every time they begin and re-start a project.
Coding offers something different. It’s a creative and analytical hobby that provides a very different experience for children and helps build their confidence.
Code Ninjas located in Gateway Commons in Wake Forest is teaching kids (ages 7-14 years) how to code through a game-based curriculum that teaches teamwork, logic, math, and problem-solving and most importantly brings the FUN FACTOR!
Code Ninjas mirrors the martial arts concept and has a 9-belt curriculum where kids earn rewards through belt achievement. It is self-paced, not self-taught. Kids and parents will find that Code Ninjas has a dojo, not a classroom, and instructors are called Code Senseis….this is the Code Ninja Way!
