Weekend Family Fun in Raleigh

Are you in search of a weekend outing around Raleigh that will excite the family? We’re sharing four must-see weekend events that are bound to bring in the family fun for all ages. From a HOOPLA Party, a superhero & science fiction festival to an Out of this World Celebration here are few that will jazz up your summer weekend in Raleigh.

Weekend Family Fun in Raleigh: July 14th – 16th

Raleigh Supercon

Friday, July 14th – Sunday, July 16th.  Raleigh Convention Center

Fans big and small of pop-culture, superheroes, science fiction, fantasy, anime, cartoons, and video games can enjoy this 3-day festival in Raleigh. The event features celebrity guests, comic book creators, voice actors, entertainers, industry guests, cosplayers, exhibitors, artists, and writers. People are encouraged to dress up in costume or come as they are for this family friendly event. Kids 9 & Under are free with a paying adult. 

Summer Films at NCMA: MOANA (Rated PG) & HOOPLA: Party in the Park

Friday, July 14th.  Museum Park Theatre, Raleigh

Check out the big screen movie magic under the stars at the NC Museum of Art.  Bring your lawn chairs & picnic baskets and enjoy this family-friendly movie. The movie starts at 9:00 p.m.  Cost: $6 for nonmembers, FREE for members. Come early at 5:00 p.m. and enjoy HOOPLA: Party in the Park, Polynesian style with a Carolina Luau.  Enjoy performances from Imagine Circus with their Femme de Fire show, Durham Ukulele Orchestra, and the Raleigh Drum Circle. A DJ will be spinning tunes and Food Trucks will be serving. 

Out of this World Celebration

Saturday, July 15th.  11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Marbles Kids Museum, Raleigh

Grab your future space explorers and bring them to this event where kids can create DIY  stomp rockets, Make-Your-Own Solar System and take part in real life solar observations in the museum courtyard. Cool off and buckle up at Marbles IMAX for a 45-minute space movie that will send you into orbit: Hubble 3D and Journey to Space 3D both showing! In partnership with NISEnet and Raleigh Astronomy Club.

Family Feature: Sun Power

Sunday, July 16th.  2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Crowder District Park, Apex

Harness the power of the sun with the whole family! Cook a snack using a solar cooker, use the sun’s rays in an art project, and learn the importance of the sun in our ecosystem. Make sure you wear sunscreen! For all ages; fee: $1/Person. Registration is required for all family members and children must have adult accompaniment.
