Let’s face it, getting to the gym when you’re a mom isn’t always an easy task. I know moms that love their gym simply for the childcare, but that isn’t always a sure thing for every mom. I used to attend a Zumba class at a local studio, but there wasn’t childcare. I had to find a class time that meshed with my husband’s work schedule which cut into family dinners or kissing my son goodnight at bedtime. Then I joined a local gym with free childcare. It sounded heavenly! But the childcare hours were never convenient for me. Just when I was ready to go the gym, the childcare center was closed.
I know what some of you are thinking. Excuses. I am full of them, I’ll admit it! I don’t enjoy working out, but the older I get, the more I realize how important it is. As my clothes start to hug my body tighter or I hate the way things fit, I know I need to take care of myself. But more than that, the more I watch my son grow, I see how quickly time flies and I want to be here to see him grow up. I want to see the man he’s going to become, attend his wedding and meet his children. All of that means taking care of myself now and doing everything I can to keep myself healthy.
While I don’t enjoy most workouts, I’ve found that finding the right exercise program for me is key! It needs to be something that I can look forward to (somewhat), something I can talk myself into doing most days, and something that is doable from home, on my own timeline. Once I start seeing results, it’s much easier for me to stick with the program. Below are some great workouts for busy moms that you can do from home, with minimal equipment and many of them are free!
Bikini Body Mommy
This is my current favorite! Bikini Body Mommy is free via YouTube. She does have paid features on her website, but if you just want the basic workouts, they are available at no cost. These workouts are around 25 minutes each, but my favorite part is the instructor is a also a mom and you can watch her lose the weight herself throughout her workouts.
30 Day Shred
If you’re a fan of The Biggest Loser or Jillian Michaels, you will love the 30 Day Shred. These videos are also only about 25 minutes and can be fit into your day whenever it is convenient for you! You can purchase the program on Amazon Video for only $5 or you can get it free via the BeFit YouTube Channel (keep reading!).
If you like variety, Daily Burn is a great option! Stream the type of workout you like from your home, from dance classes and yoga to weight lifting. Daily Burn is around $10 a month, but does offer a free 30 day trial. They also have a free workout of the week via their YouTube channel.
This YouTube channel is full of free workouts! There are free fitness videos from famous fitness experts, like Jillian Michaels and Denise Austin. You pick what you like!
This is another mom that gets it! She is fitting her workouts in around her kids’ busy schedules, but also working out with her kids! If you’d like to get the kids involved, definitely check out this mom! All of her videos are free either on her website or via her social media channels.
