It’s September, which means we are moving into fall, but living in North Carolina, it doesn’t always feel like fall weather. When the seasons change it can be hard to know what to wear. What’s a girl to do? Below are three easy tips for dressing for both the season and the weather and transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall.
Tip 1- Add Layers
Nothing says fall like layers. I know it’s hot outside. I just checked the weather and it’s 94 today, but did you know you can wear a scarf with a tank top? It might sound strange, but trust me, give it a shot. A scarf is a simple way to take a summer staple and bring it into fall. You can also layer a top or dress with a jean vest. A simple vest can usher you right into fall and add an extra dimension to your outfit without being too warm.
Tip 2- Change Your Colors
Have a fall obsession with pumpkin spice? Take it to your clothes and add one of Pantone’s 2016 fall colors, ‘Potters Clay’, into your fall lineup. If orange isn’t one of your best colors (it’s not for me), think about a nice shade of green or blue. Instead of grabbing a pair of black pants, go for a great grey or taupe on the bottom. There is no rule anymore that says you can’t wear white after Labor Day, but watch what fabrics you wear. I personally keep a pair of white jeans in my closet year-round. However, I’ve already boxed up my linen pants for next summer.
Don’t forget to check your nail color. Now is the time to break out those great fall colors like dusky blue or deep plum on your nails. Of course nude is always in season.
Tip 3- Shine Those Shoes
Transition any outfit from summer to fall by changing up your foot ware. It’s sad to give up the sandals and flip flops, but it’s time. Booties and peep toes are very on trend this season. Fringe is another trend that gives an outfit just a little extra kick into fall. I’m currently crushing hard on these metallic peep toe booties.
