Ready to lock in some fun with the kids this first weekend of March?  We’re sharing a few of our favorite family events that will excite your kids, spark their minds & creativity and even get them ready for their favorite summer pastime.  Scroll down our list and start planning a weekend of family fun!

Green Eggs & Ham: Breakfast with the Cat in the Hat

Saturday, March 4th. 9:30 a.m. – Noon.  Brier Creek Shopping Center – Barnes & Noble Parking Area

Celebrate Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a themed breakfast, book readings from very special guests, a live appearance from the Cat in the Hat and more.  Breakfast will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Cost of breakfast is $6 and proceeds go to the NC Children’s Foundation. There is no charge to participate in the event activities starting at 10:00 a.m.

Guest Star Scientist:  Geology Rocks!

Saturday, March 4th.  1:00 p.m.  – 3:00 p.m. Marbles Kids Museum, Raleigh

Explore rocks & fossils and go on a rock hunt throughout the museum with a guest star scientist, Randy Bechtel from the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources geologists. Also, check out the AHA’s Dig In at Marbles and Family Fit: Let’s Dance events.

Durham Bulls Fan Fest

Saturday, March 4th.  11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Durham Bulls Athletic Stadium, Raleigh

Kick off the season with this FREE Fan Fest! Enjoy behind-the-scenes tours, batting practices on the field, pictures & autographs with Wool E. Bull and the Bull Durham Racers, raffle prizes and much more.

Pop-Up Art: Inspired by Calligraphy

Saturday, March 4th.  Noon.  NC Museum of Art, Raleigh

Create imaginative letters inspired by calligraphy in the exhibition Glory of Venice. FREE event open to all ages with adult accompaniment. While you’re at the museum enjoy the Weekend Family-Friendly Tours: Sports and Games happening Saturday, March 4th and Sunday, March 5th.

Salamander Search on the American Tobacco Trail

Saturday, March 4th.  2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  American Tobacco Trail, Apex

Salamanders are the most secretive of all amphibians and this just makes them all the more fascinating! Learn about the interesting life cycle of these elusive amphibians, see some up close, then head out to search the temporary wetlands along the Trail for eggs, larvae, and adults. For all ages. Cost: $1 per person. Register online.  Join Salamanders at Harris Lake County Park on Sunday, March 5th from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Register in advance.

Paperhand Puppet Intervention

Saturday, March 4th.  4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Wake Forest Renaissance Centre

FREE event and open to the public.  This large scale puppet extravaganza, stilt dancing, live music and more is bringing unique stories to life during this Arts for All series.

Family Tours of Glory of Venice

Sunday, March 5th.  11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.     NC Museum of Art, Raleigh

FREE tour with paid exhibition ticket.  Half-hour tour for families with kids ages 6-12 years. Sign up that day; first come, first served.
