April is such a fun time around Raleigh. Festivals are kicking off, outdoor concerts are lining up, new exhibits are rolling into town beckoning for a weekend outing with the family or a relaxing night out with friends. We’re sharing our favorite FREE and cheap events happening around town that we know you’ll enjoy!
North Carolina & World War I Exhibit. April 8th – January 6th, 2018. NC Museum of History, Raleigh
FREE exhibit & event. Come discover what life was like as a Tar Heel soldier in World War I. This multimedia exhibit commemorates the centennial of the United States entry into WWI and focuses on North Carolina’s role in the war. Visitors will experience a re-created trench warfare environment in this 6,500 square foot exhibition with approximately 500 artifacts to view. On Saturday, April 8th a World War I Centennial Commemoration will take place at the Capitol and will extend to the museum. Experience a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, watch the ribbon cutting of the exhibit and enjoy a range of free family-oriented activities celebrating the opening of the exhibit.
Particle Falls Raleigh. Displaying until April 23rd. Across the street from the Raleigh Times Bar at 14 E. Hargett St.
FREE event. Experience this free outdoor art display in downtown Raleigh. Particle Falls is an animated colorful light projection that reflects real-time air quality in Downtown Raleigh. Snap a selfie with the projection behind you and tag @ParticleFalls to win a free t-shirt.
Dinner and a Movie Series at Pullen. Starts April 7th & runs every Friday in April. 7:00 p.m. Pullen Park, Raleigh
FREE event. Bring a picnic blanket, lawn chair or find a seat at the Pullen Cafe and enjoy an evening of fun activities, trivia, and a family-friendly movie. Activities start at 7:00 p.m. and movie begins at 8:15 p.m. This month’s theme is Animals!
Triangle SciTech Expo. April 8th. 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh
FREE event featuring over 50 hands-on exhibits, games, crafts and activities, plus a series of presentations sparking visitors interest in the field of STEM.
18th Annual Lebanese Festival. April 8th. 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. City Plaza, Downtown Raleigh
FREE admission. Enjoy a taste of Lebanese culture with delicious food, dancing and musical performances, children’s activities and more.
Raleigh Times Third Sunday Spring Children’s Carnival. April 16th. 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Raleigh Times, Raleigh
FREE event. Face painting, bouncy houses, sidewalk chalk and more. Hargett Street between Fayetteville & Wilmington Street will be closed to accommodate the carnival.

FREE event. Have an amphibian fan at home? Hop on down to this family-friendly festival all about amphibians, reptiles, and their habitats. Live animals, activities, music, exhibitors and more.
French Market & Seafood Festival. April 15th. 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Lafayette Village, Raleigh
FREE event. Stroll through the village for a French Quarter inspired experience just like in New Orleans. Music, food, art and a chance to win prizes when visiting each participating store. Kids can enjoy a storytime and craft.
Midtown Beach Music Series featuring Embers: Craig Woolard. April 20th. 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. North Hills Commons, Raleigh
FREE event. The Midtown Beach Music Series is celebrating its 10th season of free concerts and Shag dancing, a time-honored tradition in the South. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy an evening under the stars at North Hills. This series runs every Thursday evening until August 17th. Visit their website to catch all the upcoming performances.
HOOPLA: Party in the Park. April 21st. 5:00 p.m. NC Museum of Art, Raleigh
FREE event. Check out the new works of art including the interactive play sculpture SCUPTL and larger than life head sculptures Awilda & Irma by Jaume Plensa. Food Trucks will be serving along with beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. DJ Rang will be mixing beats and Cirque de Vol will lead a “hoop jam” with hula hoops and their mini aerial rig.
Garner Strawberry Festival. April 22nd. Technology Drive, Garner
FREE event. Strawberry lovers can enjoy a themed day of arts and crafts, family-oriented activities, music and dance entertainment, food vendors, inflatables and much more.
Southern Women’s Show. April 21st – 23rd. State Fairgrounds, Raleigh

Wine Walks at Waverly Place. April 28th. 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Waverly Place, Cary
Spring Wine Walks are back at Waverly. Receive a sampling glass and passport for a $10 donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Stroll the shops at Waverly Place and visit the participating retailers for wine samples and special promotions.
